Stem Mastering

Think of stem mastering as an enhanced form of a stereo master. You send us mixed down grouped stems with all processing turned ON, we put a final polish on them and master the final product. The result is far superior to anything that could be achieved with normal stereo mastering.

  • 4-5 working days turnaround
  • Unlimited revisions
  • Analogue outboard processing included
  • For hard deadlines please get in touch prior to order

We offer 3 flexible packages between a choice of 10 or 20 stems.

Firstly, please export the full song (your rough mix/master) and include it in the package. This is so we can check if the stems sound the same and are properly aligned on our end.

Recommended export settings: 44.1Khz, 24bit, no dither.

All processing on your master channel should be turned OFF during the export.

IMPORTANT: Please leave all processing and automations you have on your stems turned ON. You are welcome to additionally send the unprocessed/raw versions (they still need to include automations), please label them as ‘Raw’ or ‘Unprocessed’ and place into a separate folder.

Typically for a basic 10 stem package, you would split your song into groups listed below. For the 15 stem packages, just use the same formula, but strip down further the groups into individual stems:

Example of a 10 stem package:

1. Kick
2. Bass
3. Snares/Claps
4. 4×4 Main Hat
5. 4×4 Main Clap
6. Percs
7. Tops (hats / cymbals / shakers / tambourines etc.)
8. Keys, Chords, Pads
9. Synths, Leads
10. Buildup & Transitional FX (white noise / filter noise / crash / hits / impacts)

After the export please don’t forget to load stems into an empty project and check carefully for alignment, levels, automations and make sure no sounds are missing. Length of the stems need to match the total length of the song. Please DO NOT overlook this step.

NOTE: We offer step by step guide for each DAW on how to export and prepare the stems, so please don’t hesitate to send us an email specifying your DAW software and we will walk you quickly through the process. Following the guide guarantees the best results and error free process during the export.

If you have any questions or if something seems unclear, don’t hesitate to drop us an email and we will walk you through the process.

Stem Mastering doesn’t involve creation of new sounds, adding delays or big reverbs that would creatively change the track or influence transitions between sections. It also doesn’t involve arrangement changes, audio editing or removing audio material etc. (if you would like to discuss these, please send us an email). However we allow 1 simple revision free of charge, that involves audio editing and 1 stem replacement / resubmission if needed.

Mixdowns

You send us stems (exported individual tracks from your DAW) and we mix them down using outboard gear and UAD plugins. We offer a variety of stem packages suitable for all budgets starting from 20 stems. Kick & Bass / Sub adjustment is included in this service.

  • 4-5 working days turnaround
  • For hard deadlines please get in touch prior to order
  • Unlimited revisions

We offer 10% discounts if 2 songs are submitted in one order or 15% if there is 3 or more songs.

Before exporting stems, please export the full song and include the exported file in the stem package (your rough mix/master). This is so we can determine if the stems sound the same on our end and are aligned properly etc.

For best results we generally advise to turn off processing on your stems, however if you feel that certain processing is ‘part of the sound’,  please leave it ON and send as an additional unprocessed version labelled properly i.e. ‘Lead UNPROCESSED’.

All processing on the master channel should be turned OFF during the export.

All automations should be turned ON for all stems.

Please use the formula below as a foundation for your stem package creation and strip any grouped sounds further into individual tracks to reach the stem count of the package of your choice:

1. Kick
2. Bass
